Crimson Machina

Victorian/Gothic Fantasy

The Crimson Machina

Introduction

This document serves as the cornerstone of visual design for “The Crimson Machina,” a game setting in a steampunk universe infused with gothic fantasy elements. It outlines the aesthetic principles for creating characters that embody the essence of the era and the unique blend of technology and mysticism.

Aesthetic Themes

  • Steampunk Fusion: Characters should exhibit a fusion of Victorian elegance with industrial functionality, featuring brass, gears, and steam-powered apparatus.

  • Gothic Undertones: Vampires and werewolves bring a dark, gothic flair to the design, with an emphasis on dramatic silhouettes and ornate details.

  • Battle-Ready Elegance: Battle maids and butlers showcase a seamless blend of domestic grace and combat readiness, with hidden weapons and armor integrated into their attire.

Character Archetypes

  1. Vampires: Aristocratic and timeless, with attire that hints at nobility and power. Incorporate elements like:

  • Materials: Velvet, silk, and leather with metallic accents.

  • Colors: Deep reds, blacks, and purples.

  • Accessories: Canes, pocket watches, and jewelry with aether stones.

  1. Werewolves: Feral and rugged, with a steampunk twist. Key features include:

  • Materials: Torn fabrics, fur, and leather with mechanical limb enhancements.

  • Colors: Earth tones with metallic highlights.

  • Accessories: Moonstone amulets and steam-powered gauntlets.

  1. Battle Maids/Butlers: Graceful yet deadly, their designs should be practical but stylish. Consider:

  • Materials: Reinforced fabric with hidden armor plates.

  • Colors: Monochromatic schemes with white, black, and silver.

  • Accessories: Concealed blades, pistols, and gadgetry.

  1. Automatons: Mechanical beings with a hint of humanity. Design elements include:

  • Materials: Brass, copper, and iron with glass and wood details.

  • Colors: Metallic hues with warm, glowing aether-powered cores.

  • Accessories: Gears, pistons, and ornamental engraving.

Design Principles

  • Silhouette: Each character archetype should have a distinct silhouette that conveys their role and nature at a glance.

  • Texture: Use textures to convey material properties and the wear-and-tear of living in a steampunk world.
